Leftovers of discontent: three filmic essays by a no-future generation

Leftovers of discontent: three filmic essays by a no-future generation

In these autobiographical shorts marking their debut as filmmakers, Daniel Aguirre and Morgana de Mello explore the themes of migration, polarization and punk culture. Followed by a virtual Q&A with the artists.

Abismo, by Morgana de Mello
Since 2019, I've lived in Germany, far from my mother, Neide, in São Paulo. We've always had a close bond, but the political turmoil in Brazil has strained our relationship. Neide now attends Bolsonaro rallies, while I hold opposing beliefs, and the distance between us feels greater than ever. I board a plane to confront her, hoping our love can bridge this divide—but will it?

Arg Gubbe, by Daniel Aguirre
Public discourse has become increasingly aggressive, a reality Daniel experiences firsthand when he encounters an angry man on the street. In this film, he attempts to find him to continue the conversation.

Pink Rider, by Daniel Aguirre
The dream of a Sweden that breathes punk is soon destroyed in a real Gothenburg where punk seems to be dead. From nostalgia to frustration, a bicycle delivery person reflects on the working conditions of the 21st century in the so-called gig economy

Location: Critical Media Lab, Peterson Hall, Room 108
